Acute Bronchitis

Acute bronchitis is inflammation in the large airways (bronchial tubes). It is usually caused by viruses—the same viruses that give you the common cold. The viruses attack the insides of your airways and infect them. Your airways react by getting red and swollen, making extra mucus. Many times this can cause someone with asthma or COPD to have more symptoms than they normally have.
